AdSpam Guidelines for The West Pacific

1 - No displayed recruitment messages over 10 lines in length, including spaces
2 - No recruitment messages in all or almost all capital letters
3 - No recruitment messages written excessively in bold, underlined, or italicized letters
4 - No recruitment messages containing excessive punctuation marks or symbols
5 - No ASCII art, unless pre-approved by the Delegate
6 - No recruitment messages that defame or malign The West Pacific

> Upon the recruiter's first offense, the Delegate or his representative will issue a telegram warning to the recruiter.
> Upon the recruiter's second offense, the Delegate may report, ban and/or eject the recruiter.
> ALL RESIDENTS of TWP are encouraged to contact the Delegate to report AdSpammers who violate these Guidelines.



If these are acceptable, say so here. If the majority of residents agrees, we will create a separate thread for these and give a link to the Delegate to post in the WFE.

Sometimes insulting the BADspammers and their regions is the ONLY fun on the RMB.

Oh please do institute some reasonable limits on adspam. Krull in The Pacific has successfully for quite a while.

Agreed that ascii can be fun, but it's terribly subjective. I suggest you let 'em set up an embassy and ascii spam the forum. I estimate over 90% of adspam ascii is either ugly or epic fail.

As for the rules: I agree TWP should just post the link like TEP. That way you can change the rules to adapt to conditions. For example, the TEP rules forum thread also says that even if adspam was banned, they'd still give Bluto 50 lines if he wanted them.

So you could add exceptions based on merit, like:
- daily ascii kegs accepted, only one keg on the RMB at a time please

AFAIK Bluto follows TEP and The Pacific rules. He has said he has no problem with the idea that none of us will ever have to see an Imperial Adspam short story again. I know I wouldn't miss them.

ROL can always show mercy to n00bs by warning them once and summarily banject the really nasty offenders.

Something I do whenever I have the chance, which is not as often as I would like nowadays.

A possible point:

Different browsers and monitors are at different resolutions, since the RMB is "stretchy", this allows for different "views" of the same RMB content differently on various computers for example: a 15" monitor will display( according to that particular browser and the settings of the display) the RMB as one "size", whereas say a 19" widescreen LCD would display the same content differently...
Also the font and font size would display differently, thus what would appear to be an offense on one screen might be perfectly acceptable on another..... does this necessitate a "standard" such as say 120 characters(regardless of font/size) per line(as posted by recruiter) by 10 lines?

Not really.

I am set at 1280 x 1024. This resolution is a good one for decision making. If someone is unsure, they can always TG a copy/paste of the suspected BADspam to TAO the WATCHER and I will be happy to take it from there.
